English Curriculum

Every aspect of the children’s work is influenced by the extent to which they use language with imagination and accuracy. The effectiveness of English teaching determines the success of the whole curriculum. Language is cross-curricular – it is an essential element of learning in all areas of the curriculum.

In studying English, pupils develop skills in speaking and listening, reading and writing which enable them to communicate effectively, imaginatively and appropriately. English is taught daily following the objectives set out in the National Curriculum for England, with work appropriately differentiated to match all abilities.

Phonics and Reading

At Stone Cross School, we use Read Write Inc to teach children to read and write. Read Write Inc provides a structured and systematic approach to teaching English and helps children to become fluent readers, confident speakers and willing writers.
