Online Safety

At School

We want to keep our children safe when using technology at home and in school. As such, at Stone Cross School, online safety is an integral part of our children’s education. They have regular online safety lessons and assemblies to keep them up to date with the ever changing online world and this learning is reinforced across the curriculum when using different forms of digital technology. Being able to use online resources safely is an essential life skill. We believe that using the internet and other technologies enhances children’s learning and is an essential tool for life. However, this access is always supervised and the school has procedures in place to reduce the risk that children will come across in appropriate material online such as a filtering system.

Think You Know 2

At Home

We are all aware how important using the internet is in our everyday lives as adults. This is also true for children. They use it to socialise, learn and express themselves. However, many parents / carers can worry about the potential risks that children may face when going online. Furthermore, with technology changing very quickly it can feel daunting to keep up to date and feel confident about children’s safety when online.

We want to support our parents / carers in keeping their children safe at home when using technology.

Child Net (https://www.childnet.com/) recommend the following parent / carer conversation starter ideas:

1. Ask your children to tell you about the sites they like to visit and what they enjoy doing online.
2. Ask them about how they stay safe online. What tips do they have for you, and where did they learn them? What is OK and not OK to share?
3. Ask them if they know where to go for help, where to find the safety advice, privacy settings and how to report or block on the services they use.
4. Encourage them to help. Perhaps they can show you how to do something better online or they might have a friend who would benefit from their help and support.
5. Think about how you use the internet as a family. What could you do to get more out of the internet together and further enjoy your lives online?

Below are useful links and resources for parents / carers about keeping childrne safe online.
