Maths Curriculum

Mathematics at Stone Cross is taught in an exciting and interactive way. Our daily maths lessons follow the National Curriculum with the aim that pupils will achieve mastery of the subject. A detailed, structured curriculum is mapped out ensuring continuity and a deep understanding of concepts.

We use ‘real life’ experiences so children begin to understand the importance of applying maths skills in order to solve problems and engage them for future learning.

The teaching of maths is also included in many other areas of the curriculum as we encourage a cross-curricular approach to allow children to apply their skills and understanding in a variety of contexts.

We place great importance on developing children’s knowledge of number bonds and times tables and children work on Numbots (EYFS to Year 2) and Times Table Rockstars (Year 3 and 4 or until proficient up to 12 x 12) to help secure these. Once secure, children work on Maths Passports to help master other mental maths skills. Children are required to practise these at home for weekly testing in school.
