SEND Concerns Process
What To Do If You Are Worried About a Child's Progress or Development.
At Stone Cross School, we want every parent and carer to feel listened to, supported, and confident that concerns will be taken seriously. If you have any worries about your child’s learning, behaviour, communication, or emotional wellbeing, we are here to help.
This page explains the steps to follow and what you can expect from us.
Step 1 — Speak to the Class Teacher
Your child’s class teacher knows them best in the day‑to‑day classroom environment. They are the first point of contact for any concerns including requesting an ADHD or Autism referral.
You can:
· Arrange a meeting via the School Office
· Speak briefly at drop‑off or pick‑up
· Contact the school office to request a conversation
· The teacher will listen carefully, share observations, and begin gathering information.
Step 2 — Meet with the SENCO
If concerns continue, the class teacher may suggest involving the SENCO.
· During this meeting, the SENCO will:
· Discuss your child’s strengths and needs
· Review any assessments or observations
· Explain possible next steps
· Agree a plan with you
· This may include monitoring, classroom strategies, or targeted support.
Step 3 — Support Plan and Monitoring
If your child needs additional support, we will begin the Graduated Approach (Assess–Plan–Do–Review). This ensures support is:
· Personalised
· Evidence‑based
· Regularly reviewed
· Developed with your input
· You will have a link to access your child’s APDR and to add in any comments, three times a year.
Step 4 — Involving External Agencies
If further expertise is needed, and with your consent, we may involve specialists such as:
· Educational Psychology
· CLASS
· Speech and Language Therapy
· School Health
· CAMHS
These professionals help us understand your child’s needs more deeply.
Step 5 — Considering an EHCP
If your child requires support beyond what the school can provide, we may discuss whether an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) assessment is appropriate. This is always a collaborative decision made with families.
Our Commitment to You
When you raise a concern, you can expect us to:
· Listen without judgement
· Take your concerns seriously
· Act promptly
· Keep you informed
· Work in partnership with you
· Put your child’s wellbeing at the centre of every decision
